Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do family members and guests need tickets or invitations to attend the Commencement ceremony?
A: Tickets are not required—seating is general and open to the public.

Q: What time do the facility doors open?
A: Doors will open approximately ninety minutes prior to the beginning of each ceremony.

Q: How long does the ceremony usually last?
A: Each ceremony should conclude less than two hours after it begins.

Q: Can you confirm my attendance at Commencement?
A: If your degree status report says "ok" and you have received e-mails regarding Commencement activities, you are cleared to graduate. You then must ensure you RSVP for the event by Friday, November 20. If you are concerned that you may not be cleared for graduation, contact the Registrar's Office at 404.894.4150.

Q: My parents live out of the country and need a visa to attend Commencement. Can Georgia Tech provide an invitation letter?
A: Georgia Tech does not issue invitation letters for Commencement; however, a copy of your degree status report should work to prove your matriculation through Tech. Please visit the Office of International Education for more details.

Q: I have honors distinction. Will I receive cords to wear?
A: Georgia Tech does not provide cords to wear at Commencement. If you are a part of a club, organization, or college that provides cords, you may wear those. Check with your club advisor or departmental advisor to confirm.

Q: Where do I purchase my academic regalia?
A: Academic regalia should be purchased as soon as possible at the Barnes & Noble @ Georgia Tech Bookstore. PhD regalia must be purchased by Friday, October 9. All other graduates, please purchase your regalia as soon as possible.

Q: Will the Commencement ceremony be Web cast?
A: No.

Q: Are Commencement-related activities planned during Commencement weekend?
A: While there are no Institute-wide events planned during the actual weekend, individual colleges and schools often hold Commencement-related events. Candidates should contact their dean's office or school chair's office for further information.
