Student Commencement Day Logistics

Congratulations, you made it!

Line-up Information

Students must arrive no later than one hour prior to their ceremony start time for line-up. Students who arrive late will not be permitted to sit with their degree program.

Students will line up in the Zelnak Practice Facility at McCamish Pavilion. The entrance is accessed from the E65 parking lot, at the top of Eighth Street. Please have your regalia on before you arrive.

Restricted items include large bags, luggage, laptops, selfie-sticks, and balloons. Students will be asked to take these items back to their vehicle or dorm. There is no bag or coat check available.

Recognition of Degree Candidates

Degrees are conferred in the following order: Ph.D., master’s, and bachelor’s. All students will be recognized individually on stage.

Doctoral candidates who attend the ceremony will receive their diplomas on stage.  Master’s and bachelor’s candidates will receive a memento as they walk across the stage. The Registrar's Office will mail diplomas six to eight weeks after the ceremony.

All graduates will have a photo opportunity as they proceed off stage and back to their seats. For information on how to obtain photos taken during the ceremony, visit the Announcements and Memorabilia page.

Exiting the Ceremony

Students will be led out of the ceremony by faculty and will exit McCamish Pavilion and be directed to the west entrance, located off of Fowler Street. Be sure to take all of your belongings, as there is no re-entry into the building.

Students should make arrangements with their guests prior to the ceremony on where to meet outside the building after the event.

Student Dress Code

Under their gowns, men should wear dark trousers and shoes, and a shirt with a collar. Women should wear dark slacks, or a skirt or dress, and low-heeled shoes. Still wondering what to wear? View our guide, What Not to Wear: Commencement Edition.
